28th January 

At the meeting of the School Committee it was decided to arrange to take the school children to Castle Point for their annual picnic. 

6th February 

On examining the head of Dorothy Simmons, nits were found on the hair and her mother was requested to keep her at home and attend to her head. 

2nd March

Private Robert Leishman Langdon, son of Mr R. L. Langdon, of Tenui [Tinui], has been killed in action. Deceased was twenty-six years of age, and left with the 26th Reinforcements.  

26th March 

Mr Norris was allowed to address the children on behalf of the National Service League on the subject of helping returned soldiers. 

25th April 

Dora, Dick and Jack Andrews were found to have head lice in their hair and were sent home with a request to their mother to give careful attention to the matter 

10th June 

Mr C Schofield cut up about 8 cords of willow wood for firewood by circular saw. He was assisted by other members of the School Committee. 

15th June 

The big boys were taken by Messrs Speedy, Bennett and O’Connor in their motor cars to Whareama School to play a match of football with the boys of that school. The Tinui Boys had an easy victory.

19th July 

The children were delighted by continuous showers of snow during the day. The snow lay on the ground all day. 

H Sutton [long-serving schoolmaster] resigned.

22nd July

Snow fell at intervals during this and the last two days. Children were able to indulge in snowballing. 

26th July 

The snow was still visible on the surrounding hills not having thawed for a whole week. This is regarded as a record snowfall for this district 

26th August 

A parcel of books arrived by post from D H S Carterton containing 9 copies of Alice in Wonderland for use as continuous readers 

28th August 

Parcel of continuous readers from Pongaroa School - 7 copies of Gorilla hunters. 

13th September 

Parcel of books from Ihuraua – 5 copies of The magic Garden.

29 November - Influenza Epidemic

Three obituaries were posted in the 29 November 1918 issue of the Wairarapa Age. These three deaths of East Coast people were all as a result of the 1918 influenza epidemic. 

MR. J. A. LAING. The many friends of Mr John Allan Laing, of Riversdale, and second son of Mr William Miller Laing and his wife Jessie, of Upper Plain, Masterton, will regret to learn of his death, which took place at the Blairlogie temporary hospital yesterday from the prevailing epidemic. The deceased, who was 25 years of age, leaves a wife to mourn her loss. The funeral will leave the residence of Mr Z. M. Hoar, Chapel street, for the Masterton cemetery at 4 o'clock this afternoon. 

MRS. H. H. S. RYDER. It is with the deepest regret that we have to chronicle the death of Mrs Ellen Florence Ryder, nee Belliss, wife of Mr H. H. S. Ryder, Chairman of the Castlepoint County Council, which occurred at the residence of Mrs L. Belliss, Pownall street, Masterton, yesterday morning. The deceased was widely respected in the East Coast district, and the sympathy of a wide circle of friends will be extended to the bereaved relations. The funeral will take place at the Tenui [Tinui] cemetery at 2.30 o'clock this afternoon. 

Miss Rita Bertha Brightwell, the seven-year-old daughter of Mr Arthur Brightwell, of Whakataki, died at the Blarlogie temporary hospital on Wednesday. The funeral will take place at Tenui to-day.
