18th January 

Notice received from the Wellington Education Board that Flora Perry had gained a pass in the Junior National Scholarship exams and has been offered a Junior National Scholarship of the value of £40 a year, tenable for 3 years. 

4th March 

School was closed with consent of the School Committee to enable the pupils to attend the Langdale Sports. 

5th March 

As the weather was wet yesterday, the Langdale Sports were postponed until today. Many scholars stayed from school to attend the sports. 

12th March 

Mr T R Fleming, School Inspector, visited 

• Roll 33 Present 17 

• The day of my visit was wet. As many of the children travel considerable distances to school the rain will account for the large number of absentees 

3rd April 

The school was well washed with disinfectant, the water was cleaned and the heap of firewood was removed from near the flagpole to the new firewood shed. The School Committee assisted with the work and Mr H Bennett also supplied the horse and cart for the removal of the firewood.

16th May 

The teacher was ill in bed with influenza. The chairman closed the school and the Board was informed of what was done. 

28th June 

The School Committee agreed that children should assist the Belgian Relief Fund by sewing garments for refugee Belgian Children. It was also agreed to accept the offer of the Board of a supply of plants suitable for planting a hedge in the garden. It was decided to ask for Privet and Matipo.

23 July 

An auction of a flag held in Tinui Hall raised £7,455 towards the Wounded Soldiers' Fund. 

27th July 

Messrs Speedy and Son spent two or three hours in topping the row of pines at the back of the school building. 

2nd August 

Messrs O’Connor and Cripps (Junior) planted a great number of gum trees to replace those that had died in the plantation at the far end of the horse paddock. 

17 August

The residents of Tinui were deeply grieved when news came, of the death of Trooper Harold Langdon, a native of the district and an old boy of the Tinui School. All sincerely sympathise with his parents and relatives in their bereavement. 

13th September 

The Board supplied a supply of garden seeds -15 packets vegetable seeds and 10 packets of flower seeds.

4th -11th October 

School was closed by permission of the Board to enable the teacher to visit his son on the occasion of his embarkation for Egypt or the Dardanelles as a unit of the 7th Contingent of the Expeditionary forces sent to war 

30th October 

Inspector's report included 

• Roll 35 

• Needlework (Mrs Sutton). Children have been doing good work for the soldiers and the Belgians 

• Mrs Sutton assists in the teaching of singing.

• A satisfactory programme in Elementary Agriculture is followed and very good practical work is done in the garden.

WOUNDED SOLDIERS' FUND.
TENUI FLAG REALISES £7455.

A patriotic concert was held at Tenui [Tinui] last night, when members of a Masterton concert party put on a splendid programme, of which the audience demonstrated their hearty appreciation by vociferous encores. 

A flag donated by Mrs Wm. Douglas was put up to auction by Mr Alex. Cooper, of W. and G. Turnbull and Co., and realised the handsome sum of £7455. 

Two of the returned soldiers carried the flag on to the stage, and their appearance was greeted with prolonged applause and cheers. 

Several bids were made for Tenui men at the Dardanelles, and also some at Trentham, and. in each case the bids were received with three cheers for the donors. The bidding was brisk right through. The settlers, small and large, and especially the working men of the district, gave very generously. 

The flag was finally bought by Mr C. F. Vallance, of Kahumingi, for £1000, and presented by him to the Tenui school. The other articles sold were as follows:—
